The international communion and cooperation on TCM

 

ˇˇˇˇRecently, China has built a good cooperation relation with most countries and regions of Taiwan, Hongkong and Macao in the world in the field of traditional herbs. Chinese TCM products have been exported to more than 40 countries and regions. Especially inrecent years, with the development of Chinese reform, the growth and achievement of TCM have greatly attracted the attention of the world. The developing trend of international communion and cooperation is changing, from civilian commmunion to goverment cooperation. The various TCM institutions, such as TCM clinic, TCM school, TCM trading center and TCM research center, have been established in most countries and regions, and invite the TCM experts from China to work for the institutions and conduct the activities of TCM research and information communion. TCM has been accepted and realized by more and more peoples from other countries, meanwhile, increasing peoples frome foreign coutries are eager to understand the knowledge on TCM completely. Till now, in China, the number of students abroad majored in TCM accounts for the first place among all natural science subjects.

For past years, China strengthened the communication and cooperation with related organizations, in particular WHO, achieving a positive result. For instance, China has cooperated with WHO in setting up seven Traditional Medicine centers in China, furthermore in Oct. 1985, a regional proseminar titled " the function of Traditional medicine in primary health care " was held in Guangzhou to introduce and spread the knowledge of TCM and the experience of utilizing TCM to serve peoples. Since 1989, STCMA(State Traditional Chinese Medicine Administraion) has made a regular meeting system with WHO that the communion and study on TCM would be conducted regularly. In 1991, STCMA and WHO jointly held The International Traditional Medicine Conference, and experts from over 40 contries and officials from more than 20 countries presented the meeting, moreover, the Beijing Declaration titled Human Health Needs Traditional Medicine was approved conformably. In recent years, with the support of WHO, STCMA has held over 10 various training course focused on the issue of TCM therapy and inspection for herbal untoward reaction, besides, the development of TCM was further discussed in the Globe Traditional Medicine Conference held in 1996, Beijing.

For further spread of TCM in the world, in Nov.1997, STCMA had a meeting focusing on the issue that Chinese Medicine how to enter world market, and raised the a development goal of TCM in the coming 10 years, as follows:

ˇˇˇˇA. set up a communication network of TCM, strengthen the people's knowledge on TCM and prompt TCM to be accepted by other countries healthcare and medicare system.
B. further boost the development of TCM by adopting the advanced production technique and experience.
C. based on the practical situation that different country has different culture and economic developing level, TCM should integrate with other styles of medicine.

In a word, since Chinese opening reform, the position of TCM in the field of world medicine has changed greatly. More and more people from foriegn countries have gradually realized the effect of TCM, and TCM is contributing to the project of human health.
