Chinese herbal products are facing challenge in Canada Market

In recent years, the Health Dept. and Custom of Canada has conducted the strict administration on TCM, because TCM is becoming more popular. Lately, in order to strengthen the TCM administration, Canada Govermenthas worked out a series of regulations of Food and Drug Administration Acts, Drug Identifying and Numbering Administration Acts, Good Manufacturing Practice Acts, and will bring them into practice in the near future. Heretofore, the related authority of Canadian goverment organized a expert group to contuct a feasibility consultation on the above mentioned Acts, it's reported that the group have finalized the consultation and submited the report to Health Department.

The implemention of the Food and Drug Administration Acts has attracted a strong attention of Canadian TCM dealers, and the reason is that the Acts regulate any product with the treatment function should be considered as Drug, so their production should be under the strict control(GMP). Any product not in compliance with the requirement of production hygienic standard is forbided to sell in the market, and all of the TCM products must apply for the drug permit from Canada Health Department, furthermore the description to curativeeffect must hold the scientific basis (western medicine). According to the regulations, some herbs i.e. ginseng and angelica were ranged into the scope of western medicine, and TCM products can't contain the ingredient of ginseng and angelica. The conducting of the above mentioned regulations will result in the difficulty to TCM products that TCM product made in China is hard to meet the requirement of the regulations in short order, furthermore, the complicated application procedure and higher operation expenses will baffle the TCM dealers.
