Mr. Jia Qinglin Met with the Overseas Chinese

  Mr. Jia Qinglin, Mayor of Beijing met with members of Overseas Chinese Beijing League in Beijing Hotel yesterday afternoon. They came to Beijing for attending government celebration for 51 anniversaries of our national day.

  Mr. Jia Qinglin extended a warm welcome to all participants, introduced achievements Beijing government made in past years in the field of city construction and cultural relic preservation to them, and highly praised

them for their contribution towards the motherland. He expressed his congratulation to them for the newly established Overseas Chinese Beijing League, saying the establishment of Overseas Chinese Beijing League is a concrete patriotic action that shows patriots'love to their motherland He hopes overseas Chinese and emigrants are all concerned with the construction and development of our Country, united under the banner of China to promote exchanges in the fields of scientific technology, education, economy, culture and sport etc.

The members presented at meeting expressed themselves one after another. They showed their confidence and passion to contribute what they can do to their motherland and develop our Country into a thriving and prosperous one. And the first thing they want to do is to mobilize and call on overseas Chinese the world over to work in bidding for Olympic Games '2008 to be held in Beijing. Mr. Lin Wenyi, deputy mayor of Beijing was present at meeting.

Mr. Jia Qinglin, Mayor of Beijing, met with members of Hong Kong Schoolfellow Association of Fujian University genially in Beijing Hotel yesterday afternoon. They came to Beijing for attending 51 anniversaries ceremony of our National Day held by government.

Mr. Jia Qinglin extended his welcome to them and said "Today is a happy day for 51 anniversaries of establishing People's Republic of China. A great achievements have been made in past 51 years, especially since reform and opening policy to the outside world was carried out. A great changes has been taken place in our Country since then, and we 've made a tremendous progress in every fields. All these victories have been achieved by efforts of all the people of our Country including Hong Kong compatriots.

For one centry, Hong Kong compatriots have shown great concern about the development of mainland China and given a great number of support to Beijing's construction. We appreciated what they have done for us very much, including Hong Kong compatriots of Fujian origion.

Now Beijing is open to all the world and would continue increasing pace to perform open policy in the years to come. I hope all the compatriots are involved in the construction of mainland China and Beijing city.
